Large format (36" max) printer

HP Designjet 800PS Scanner and Printer

Please note that the use of this printer/scanner is limited to research, teaching, and assignments only. Printing is limited to map-printing only, or other library oversized materials. For poster printing and other uses, please visit Graphic Resources.

The Geology large-format printer and scanner is located in the Geology & Planetary Sciences Department, 207 N. Mudd.

To scan or print files, start as follows:

1. Turn on all equipment, beginning with the scanner. The switch is located at the rear left of the scanner (follow the yellow dot).

2. Next, turn on the printer. The switch is located on the front panel, on the left side.

3. Finally, turn on the PC, at the bottom of the monitor, on the far right-side (follow the red dot). It may be a little difficult to reach, but use your finger to feel for the opening.

4. Wait for everything to power up. The HP Designjet Program will open on the workstation automatically. Check the status lights on the scanner: once they are green, everything is ready to go.

5. If you see the “media profile” window, hit OK on the screen.

6. For scanning or printing, please see appropriate boxes on the right to continue.

 

Scanning

Scanning to a file:

The use of this scanner is limited to research, teaching, and assignments only.

a) Select the “scan” tab button on the screen.
b) Place the document face down with the intended top edge forward in the scanner insertion slot (preferably centered).
c) Slide the document gently into the insertion slot until you feel it pulled into the start position.
d) Select your scan options (type of original, etc.).
e) Select “settings” to select either jpeg, tiff, or pdf. Note: Adobe Acrobat (pdf) is not installed on this computer, but you can save your scanned file as pdf.
f) Name your file. The default saving directory is D: You can change it to any directory, including a portable thumb drive. (usually F:) To change file directory, use the arrows to find the desired directory. Pressing “..” will move you up to the parent directory. Click OK to return to the Scan tab.
g) Press the ‘scan to file’ button (floppy disk symbol) to start the process. The scanner will pull in your document, and begin the scanning process. Once it is sent back out, press the scan to file button again to save your work. The scanner will then pull in your document a second time.
h) To print your file, follow the instructions listed below in "Printing Files."

There is a charge of $6.50 per linear foot printed.  Please provide a valid PTA account number upon printing.  There is a clipboard on top of the keyboard to fill in your account information.  Provide your name, linear-feet printed, and the account to charge to.

 

a) You can print pdf, ppt, jpeg, and tiff files. 
b) Log-in with your IMSS account using the computer on the right hand side of the table. Open your file, then print.
 
     Select HP Designjet 800PS 42 as the printer name.
c) Select your paper size. Open your pdf, select “File,” and then “Properties.” Your page size will be found here, look in the lower left corner of this box. This printer has a maximum width paper of 36 in. Hit OK to close.
 
NOTE:  For ppt, jpeg, and tiff files, you will have to make sure and select an appropriate print size, based on the size that you created during the creation of your document.
 
 
 
 
d) Go to “File,” then “Print.” Be sure HP Designjet 800PS 42 is selected. Select “Properties.” Under the “Paper/Quality” tab, look at the Paper Options. Select “Custom.” Simply input your dimensions you would like. (The units are in inches.).
 
e) Be sure and select your appropriate page size, noting the maximum width of 36 in.
