Travel Grants

To help researchers use our collections, we offer the following travel grants, which can fund transportation, hotels, and other expenses necessary for visiting us for archival research.

The Maurice A. Biot Fund and Victor and Joy Wouk Fund each support grants of up to $2000 to graduate students or established scholars who plan to spend at least five full working days in the Caltech Archives. All projects are eligible for the Biot awards, with a preference for those in the history of technology, and especially aeronautics, applied mechanics, and geophysics. The Wouk fund specifically supports research using the Victor Wouk Papers. To apply for either grant, please email archives@caltech.edu with a CV, a statement of up to 500 words describing your research and how Caltech collections will support it, and a brief budget.

Caltech also participates in the Consortium for History of Science, Technology and Medicine, which offers research fellowships for scholars using the collections of two or more member institutions, including Caltech. In addition, CHSTM offers dissertation fellowships, postdoctoral fellowships, and fellowships for independent and alt-academic scholars.
